Mediation is a confidential and effective way of resolving disputes without the need to go to court or arbitration. It involves using an independent third party - a mediator - who helps both sides to come to an agreement

If the parties in a dispute come to an agreement then the mediator guides them to a settlement on which they all agree. The mediator does not impose a decision or express a view as to the merits of the case. Mediation looks at the common ground, the positive aspects and finds the best resolution for both parties.

Why choose mediation?

  • The outcome of mediation is always within the control of the parties.
  • Parties in mediation avoid the uncertainty and dissatisfaction often experienced in court or at arbitration or adjudication where they have little choice but to accept the judgment made, which may not necessarily suit all parties.
  • Mediation resolves disputes quickly, usually within a day.
  • Mediation is less expensive than litigation - because the process is so much quicker and consequently fees are lower.
