Specialist Skills: Providing legal and commercial advise to organisations throughout the supply chain on a wide range of construction and engineering projects, including within the renewable energy, power, rail and infrastructure sectors. Phil was also named as a Key Lawyer in the 2021 Legal 500 at his previous firm.
Phil originally trained as a quantity surveyor before qualifying as a solicitor and, as a result of his knowledge of construction processes, has significant experience of advising clients on distressed projects to find a route to a successful outcome. Phil has worked on claims and disputes on international projects in the Middle East and Africa and has experience of all forms of dispute resolution, both domestically and internationally.
Employment History: 2017 – 2021 – Hill Dickinson LLP – worked in the construction and engineering team on a wide range of domestic disputes including projects in the renewable energy, power, infrastructure and rail sectors
2012 – 2017 – Systech Solicitors – worked on disputes in the UK along with expert determination on a metro project in Saudi Arabia and dispute adjudication boards on a coal fired power station in South Africa
2008 – 2012 – Blake Newport Associates – working on claims and disputes across the rail, infrastructure and offshore wind sectors
2005 – 2008 – Wates Construction – project quantity surveyor on large commercial projects across the North West
2003 – 2005 – professional rugby player in Italy
2001 – 2003 – David McLean Contractors – assistant quantity surveyor on student accommodation and residential schemes
